Telecommunications Act of 1996

The 1996 Act was passed in order "to promote competition and reduce regulation in order to secure lower prices and higher quality services for American telecommunications consumers and encourage the rapid deployment of new telecommunications technologies."

Communications Act of 1934

The 1934 Act was passed in order "to provide for the regulation of interstate and foreign communication by wire or radio, and for other purposes." It also created the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
